Public Safety Case Study
In-Building Emergency Responder Communication Charlotte, NC
A prominent developer that has been active in the Greater Charlotte and Greensboro markets for over 40 years was in need of a wireless solution. They have developed in excess of eight million square feet of office, hospitality, medical, retail and industrial facilities. Through planned and sustainable growth the developer has built established communities that are well maintained and respected in the greater Charlotte area.
Business situation
Two ten-story towers were built in the existing business park as part of the continued development. The buildings added approximately 500,000 square feet of environmentally sustainable Class “A” office space the corporate park. Harris Communications was introduced to the project to consult on wireless solutions for the buildings.
Technical situation
The main concern for this particular project was to meet the new City of Charlotte Fire and Public Safety Repeater Ordinance. The need for reliable in-building communication for first responders is crucial in emergencies and has prompted new legislation in cities throughout the United States. Harris Communications had the wireless experience and knowledge to design a solution that would satisfy the requirements of the local ordinance.
Solution
Harris Communications designed a Two Way Signal Booster System that ensured that fire, police and emergency medical services would be able to communicate effectively and stay in constant communication throughout the building. This was a distributive antenna solution (DAS) that we were able to implement a cost effective solution that met the ordinance requirements.
Benefits
The two buildings are compliant with the new ordinance and offer increased safety for building tenants, visitors and the first responders in Charlotte.
