What are Commercial Cellular Repeaters?
A commercial cellular repeater or cellular booster is a type of bi-directional amplifier (BDA) as commonly named in the wireless telecommunications industry. The device is used for boosting the cell phone reception to a designated through the usage of an antenna for reception, an amplified signal and an internal rebroadcast antenna. Commercial cellular repeaters are intended to provide coverage for a larger area as opposed to a smaller residential amplifier. Commercial repeaters are very similar to the standard cellular broadcast towers used by the network providers. They are much smaller and usually intended for use in one building. Cellular repeater amplifiers rebroadcast cellular signals inside the building and ensure adequate and reliable cellular signal. The system generally uses a directional antenna to collect the best cellular signal from outside of the building. The signal is in turn transmitted to an amplifier unit which amplifies the signal, and retransmits it to the pre-designated enhancement area. This providing significantly improved signal strength. The more advance models are dual band and will amplify more than one cellular signal as referenced in an earlier posting to use the same repeater at the same time. This application is suitable for commercial use or home use.
Analysts predict the market for cellular repeaters is expected to experience rapid growth in the coming years, especially in the United States. In addition to better coverage, cellular repeaters include an increase in the cell phone’s battery life because the phone no longer searches for a signal.
